Visas when holidaying in Sharm
We are often asked "Whats the deal with Visas in Sharm?". This article is intended to clarify the situation regarding when visas are and are not required.
Do I need a Visa for Sharm?
In short it depends what excursions you are doing. If you are staying around the shore line, and not travelling out of Sharm then the answer is no, you do not need a Visa.
If you are planning on doing some more adventurous excursions on your holiday which require you to travel out of the Sinai Peninsula, such as Cairo and Luxor excursions, then you will require a Visa. You will also need a Visa if you go on any excursions taking you out to sea.
What Excursions require a Visa?
You will require a Visa for the following excursions:
- Cairo by bus or Plane
- Luxor by plane
- Ras Mohamed by bus
- Colored Canyon
- Super Safari
All other excursions will not require a Visa.
How do I get a Visa?
Everyone must complete a landing card, whether they are applying for a visa or not. These are often given out on the plane but one can obtain them in the Arrivals Hall of Sharm Airport. If you don’t want a visa, then simply fill in the card & write “SINAI ONLY” anywhere on the back. If you do require a Visa it will take approximately 10 minutes depending on ques to get your visa stamp.
Visa's cost 10GBP so you are advised to have some dollars ready for when you land.

We booked 3 excursions prior to going on holiday and were a little worried about meeting a rep outside our complex the day after we landed....However fear not...they only want to collect the rest of the money and give you the vouchers and the times and place for pick up. Luxor by plane.....a long day but great trip...we were picked up and guided through every stage and the english speach of ALL the guides was great. We saw lots of history and then even got a bonus of Banana Island before flying back. Bedowin Tea and Star gazing.....What a great experience...the camel ride was hilarios...food was nice and the star gazing was awesome the knowledge of the guy was amazing and now even I can find different star clusters!! Quad biking.....great fun and very dirty!!...ecco mountain was the best...its a must do trip!! I cant say enough about these guys....if you book with a bigger company or your hotel reps you are in massive groups....stick with these and you get the personal egyptian touch...thanks you for some great trips on our first and definately not last trip to your amazing country.
