St Catherines Monastery Tour and Coloured Canyon Walk

St Catherines Monastery Tour

After a rest and some delicious breakfast we'll visit St Catherines monastery for a guided tour. Located on the very ground where god was said to have appeared to Moses in the Burning Bush, this is a very important site for Abrahamic religions that's steeped in history, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This is the oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastery in the world, with a history that can be traced back over seventeen centuries. The monastery pre-dates the divisions of the Christian world, its origins extending to late antiquity and amazingly is still inhabited by the same order of monks who constructed it in the 4th century!

Coloured Canyon Walk

After you've visited the amazing St Catherine's Monastery we'll drive into the deserts of the Sinai in a comfortable, modern Land Cruiser. Hailed as the ultimate 4x4, there's not many places on earth these vehicles won't go and this will be made clear as you zoom over the bumpy terrain of the Sinai Peninsula.

After just over an hour in the 4x4 we'll arrive at the maze of sandstone rocks known as the Coloured Canyon! We'll take the well-trodden but by no-means easy walk through the Canyon, climbing boulders, ladders, squeezing through tight rock formations and cracks and openings in the canyon and even at some points maybe a short abseil! It's a great experience that binds the group together and you'll find most of the way the group will be laughing and helping each other over the occasionally difficult climb.

This isn't for the faint hearted but there's great rewards for the active traveller as this is a fantastically fun trip amongst stunning scenery, and the professional SharmExcursions tour guide will always be available to help anyone needing it.

Drive Back to Sharm El Sheikh

After a fantastic tour mixing culture and history with action and adventure we'll travel back through the deserts to your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.

We had a great excursion, we learned and see a lot of things about the history of the places that we had visited, with the help of our guide, HESHAM SAQR, which offered us unforgetabel moments. I advice everyone to make this excursions!!!

St Catherines Monestary Tour and Coloured Canyon Walk ( Stopped Now )
St Katherine's Monestary was OK the crowds are very off putting though its hard to see everything due to this you need your shoulders covered here ladies and below knee trousers men, this excursion is quite hard on anyone who can't walk a distance for medical reasons as one poor lady found out however as you have to walk about half mile to the monestary from the car park however if you mention your disability to the guide at the beginning you may get a local taxi up to the monestary entrance for an extra fee. The burning bush was the best bit for me as was the Moses' mountain.
Coloured Canyon what can we say but BRILLIANT be aware though if you choose to go into the canyon with the guides who are excellant not to wear white or light coloured trousers as I did as there is a bit of sliding on one' bottom in parts and small jumps through the canyon it reminded me of dry Canyoning. I would'nt recommend anyone with a medical condition to attempt to go down or any one that was big made as there are a couple of small squeezy places toget through however those with a medical condition can stay at the top and admire the magnificant view as my youngest daughter did. The jeep Safari going through the desert to the place where they stop at top of the canyon is absolutly brilliant the jeeps race one another over bumps etc anyone thats done a jeep safari before this is a good one. Note Once down in the canyon you cant turn around and go back its a round walk, for those who do do it it is a welcome refreshing walk from the heat and direct sun the whole canyon once in it is just breathtaking. Highly recommended.
